Researchers I spoke with estimate that FLASH could become a routine clinical option in about 10 years—after the completion of remaining preclinical studies and multiphase human trials, and as machines become more compact, affordable, and efficient. Much of the momentum comes from a growing field of startups competing to build devices, but the broader scientific community remains remarkably open and collaborative.
How have European nations responded? French authorities have barred Israeli flights carrying military equipment from crossing their territory, and Italy rejected a late request for American bombers to touch down in Sicily. Spain had previously refused the United States access to its military installations and flight corridors. Conversely, the UK has permitted American forces to utilize its bases for a conflict that its own administration deems unlawful.
